Introduction:
India the golden bird got its independence in the year of 1947. On the date 15th of August in 1947 the British declared the most awaited resolutions for every Indian. From that day onwards India has seen a number of prime ministers. Here in this article, we will know a brief about the Indian prime ministers and their contribution to India during their government.
Jawaharlal Nehru (1947-1964):
India got its first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the year of 1947. He is the son of an advocate Pandit Motilal Nehru. Jawaharlal contributes to freedom fighting after getting motivated by Sri. Mahatma Gandhi. Pandit Nehru implemented a lot of things in India to boost Indian progress after the independence. He generally got the fame for presenting India's non-alignment policy. Apart from it he also introduces IIT institutions to establish Indian education. Also, he inaugurated ISRO for making India a superpower in every aspect.
Lal Bahadur Shastri (1964-1966):
The most popular prime minister in India Lal Bahadur Shastri famous for his popular slogan “Jai Jawan and Jai Kissan”. He was a very down-to-earth person and took a lot of steps to improve the defense and agriculture systems in India. In his time India faced the first war with Pakistan in the year of 1965. India won the war single-handedly, and then the war was disclosed by the Taskent agreement. Shastri ji ruled over only for 2 years as he was dead in Taskent during the treaty.
Indira Gandhi (1966-1977, 1980-1984):
Indira Gandhi is also known as the first woman prime minister of India. In her time India witnessed a green revolution that boosted Indian agriculture. Indira Gandhi is also known as the shame of India as in her governance India faced an Emergency crisis. To protect her government she implement an emergency and broke down many regional parties. In her governance, India faced the second war against Pakistan in 1971, and a new country Bangladesh was introduced to the world. Her political carrier got toxic during the Golden Temple seized by a terrorist group in Punjab. Later she was assassinated by her Punjabi bodyguards due to the armed force action in the Golden Temple. Her governance was quite controversial.
Morarji Desai (1977-1979):
Morarji Desai is the 4th prime minister of India and ruled over India for almost two years. He became prime minister by alliancing with National Congress and other regional parties in a dramatical way. He was famous due to the operation of administrative transparency and the fight against corruption. Later his government was led down by the alliance parties.
Charan Singh (1979-1980):
After the down of Morarji Desai’s government, Charan Singh became prime minister in also as a dramatic way. He was also allied with the national congress and other parties. He served the nation by implementing a land reform bill. He was also known as the short-term prime minister who only worked for 2 years only.
Rajiv Gandhi (1984-1989):
After the Charan Singh govt. broken down, Smt. Indira Gandhi again became the prime minister of India in the year 1980 and ruled over India till 1984 until she got assassin by her bodyguard in 1984. After that Sikh riots take place in Delhi and all over India. A lot of innocent Punjabis died during this riot. After that, India chooses Rajiv Gandhi as the successor of Indira Gandhi. He was nominated as the prime minister of India in the year of 1984. In his governance, India improved in technology and telecommunication. He was also involved in the civil war of Sri Lanka by sending a peace army to Sri Lanka to eliminate LTT (Liberation of Tamil Tigers), which hurts the Tamil people who were established there by the Britishers before independence. Later they assassinate Rajiv Gandhi in a public meeting by bomb blasting.
V.P. Singh (1989-1990):
After the assassination of PM Rajiv Gandhi, Choudhury V.P Singh became the prime Minister of India. His government ruled India for the shortest time period almost 1 year. In a Short time period, he was popular for the implementation of reservations in govt. Jobs and education system recommended by the Mandal Commission. His govt then faced a lot of political challenges that leads to his resignation before completing the term.
Chandra Shekhar (1990-1991):
In a dramatic situation in 1990, Chandra Sekhar became the prime minister of India. He was also on the list of the short-termed prime minister of India. He worked to control the dramatic situation of Indian politics but failed.
P.V. Narasimha Rao (1991-1996):
After a long time, India got the full-termed Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. He completed his term from 1991-1996 and reformed many resolutions regarding the Indian economy, liberalization, and globalization which attracts foreign investments.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1996, 1998-2004):
The most popular PM now in India is known as Shri. Atala Bihari Vajpayee. He played a major role in India by introducing India as a superhero to the world. In his governance, India developed a Nuclear bomb and tested it successfully. For that, his govt was also led down by the alliance. Again he won the election and complete a full term. In his time in 1999, India faced the 3rd war with Pakistan in Kargil, Kashmir. India again won the war and become a power in Asia.
Manmohan Singh (2004-2014):
Manmohan Singh is also known as the accidental prime minister of India. He was a great prime minister to reform the Indian economy as well as he was trolled by the citizen of India due to his silent character. He worked as a puppet of the Gandhi family or the owner of the Indian National Congress. In his government, he established the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and developed international relations. He ruled over India for 10 years and was then defeated by the current Prime Minister Shri Narendra Damodar Das Modi.
Narendra Modi (2014-present):
The most popular prime minister after Shri. Vajpayee, Narendra Modi comes into every Indian’s mind. Shri Modi won the election in 2014 and never turned back. He was accused of the Godhra riots, from which he got a clean chit from the Supreme Court of India. In this current govt, he took a very major decision to improve the brand value of India globally. In his time many popular works done is completed like; Demonetization, Make In India, Swach Bharat Abhiyan, and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (financial inclusion). Also in his time period, India led Pakistan through surgical strikes and air strikes to eliminate terrorism in India and Asia. According to the election polls, He will again become the Prime Minister of India in the year 2024.
