Tiranga - The TriColour

Tiranga or also known as the Tricolor flag is the national flag of India. The pride of India, the Triranga is a flag that contains 3 colors together parallelly in order of “Orange, White, and Green”. In the middle of the white, Ashoka Chakra is there in blue color. It is organized with 24 lines that represent the 12 causal connections introduced by the Buddha and paṭiccasamuppāda of Dependent Origination and Conditional Arising in order of forward and reverse. In this article, we will know about what is har ghar Tiranga Abhiyan and the journey of Tiranga from 1947. 

Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan:

In the year 2021 on the occasion of the Independence of India, Indian priminister Shri. Narendra Modi starts the campaign of Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan to create awareness among the citizens of India. The awareness about India’s independence, the struggle of getting independence, the democracy, etc. After 2 years of the campaign started, in 2023 this year of 77th Independence Day PM Modi appealed to the citizens of India to fly the tricolor from 2days before independence day. This Abhiyan started on the 13th of August to the 15th of August. To make it more exclusive the Indian pm launched a website: www.harghartiranga.com. This website was initiated to provide a certificate of Har Ghar Tiranga to those who will upload their selfie with the tricolor. This Abhiyan and the website becomes the top trend in search engines. The Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan is successfully completed by providing the certificate to more than 90 million people. 

The Journey of Tiranga

India may get its independence in the year 1947 but the representative flag of India is introduced before it in year 1904. From then to now the Indian flag is modified 9 times. Here we will know the year of modifications and design by, as well as the design of the Tricolor of India. 


har ghar Tiranga Abhiyan

1904-1906

The first flag of India is introduced in 1904 and is designed by Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita. The flag contains 2 colors that are red and yellow and 2 symbols i.e. Bajra (the weapon of Lord Indra) and Lotus. The color red signifies the struggle for freedom and the color yellow is denoted as the victory. The Bajra symbol stands for strength and the Lotus for purity. Later this flag came to know about Sister Nivedita’s flag.

1906

After 2 years of the first flag was introduced, another design takes place in the year 1906. This is the first tricolor India gets, which consists of 3 different colors of strips. These strips were contain 3 colors in the order of blue, yellow, and red. The blue color consists of 8 different-shaped stars, In the middle there was Vande Mataram written in Devnagari lipi or script, and the red color consists of the symbol of the sun and a crescent moon.

7th August 1906

After some months of the second modification of the Indian flag, the first unofficial flag is introduced to India on the date of 7th August 1906. This flag is hosted in Parsee Bagan Square at Calcutta lately known as Kolkata. This flag is designed in tricolor i.e. green, yellow, and red. This flag was then known as the Calcutta or Lotus flag in India. From the bottom order, the red color consists of two colors i.e. sun and a crescent moon, the middle yellow was written Vande Mataram on it, and there are 8 half-open lotuses printed on the green color. It is believed that this flag is designed by Sachindra Prasad Bose and Sukumar Mitra. It was first hosted as the unity of India during the partition of Bengal.

22nd August 1907

This is the first flag designed and hoisted in a foreign land. It is believed that this flag is designed by Madam Cama, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, and Shyamji Krishna Verma. This flag was also directed as the Berlin Committee flag. The flag also contains 3 colors i.e. green, golden saffron, and red color.. 

1916

In 1916 the Indian flag is modified for 5th time by Pingali Venkaya, and this design is introduced after the approval of Shri. Mahatma Gandhi. Shri Gandhi wished to have the Charkha in the flag as the symbol of India’s economic regeneration. Venkaya designed it in two colors i.e. red and green, then the Charkha at the bottom. Later Gandhi Ji disqualify the flag due to the red represented the Hindus, the green represents the Muslims, and there is no color for other religions. 

1917

After 1 year in 1916 Indian flag’s modification, a new design is adopted by the Home Rule League formed by Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1917. This flag is introduced during the demand for Dominion status in India. The flag consists of the Union Jack symbol at the top right side corner and a half moon with a star at the top left corner. Except for it 5 red and 4 blue strips were there. In the middle of the flag, there is a symbol of 7 stars in the shape of the Saptarishi Mandal. 

1921

In 1921 the Indian flag is again designed by the youth of Andhra and presented, to Mr. Gandhi in the Indian National Congress Committee session in Vijayawada previously known as the Bezwada. This flag consists of two colors i.e. red and green that represents the community of Hindus and Muslims. The Charkha figure was established in between this flag as a progress of India.

1931

In the year 1931, there was a resolution passed in India to adopt the Tricolor as the national flag. The flag was again modified and consisted of 3 colors i.e. Saffron, White, and Green. In the middle of the flag, the Charkha was imprinted as the economic progress of India. 

22nd July 1947

Before the Independence on the date 22nd of July 1947, the constituent assembly of India inaugurated the first free India national flag. The flag was as same as the flag in color introduced in 1931. The only difference made in the flag was the figure. In this modification, the Ashoka Chakra symbol replaces the Charkha figure. This design was popularly accepted by the Citizens of India.
